Chevron in the UK is proud of its longstanding community affairs programme which supports arts, education and environmental activities in the key areas in which it operates, in particular east London and Pembroke in south west Wales.
The programme includes sponsorships, contributions of goods, money, services and donations made in line with Chevron’s guideline policies.
The projects Chevron becomes involved with are underpinned by strong links with the local community and aim to provide long-term benefits for the areas concerned. The approach is based on getting to know people and understanding their needs. From that foundation,
Chevron can work alongside people to make a difference in their communities.
Hundreds of projects have benefited from Chevron’s involvement over recent years, below are some recent examples.
Pembroke
In the Pembroke area, support is divided between organisations that support youth, arts, sport and educational activities and local charities. Examples of some of these sponsorships are listed below.
MUSIC
Young Musician

The Texaco Young Musician of Wales competition has been running since 1988 and provides a platform for talented young Welsh musicians to achieve their full potential. Run in conjunction with Côr Meibion De Cymru - the South Wales male choir - this biennial competition sees some 90 musicians compete in regional heats and quarter finals for five places in the final. The next final will be in spring 2007, at the Sherman Theatre in Cardiff.

Festivals
Some 580 junior school-aged pupils and up to 600 senior pupils perform in two concerts as part of the
Chevron Music Festival.
ENVIRONMENT and
SAFETY
SCAN
Chevron’s Schools Community Agenda 21 Network (SCAN) was set up in 1996 to help local school children in Pembrokeshire to focus more on environmental issues, measure the effects in their own community and then learn how they can play a part in conserving the environment.
The programme includes an intranet scheme that allows pupils to share environmental information via a live bulletin board and find out what children in other parts of the county are doing.
The Chevron Wales
Road Safety Award Scheme
The Road Safety Council of Wales (ROSPA) is working with the Welsh office to establish, promote and co-ordinate road safety education. This Award Scheme, sponsored by
Chevron , seeks to recognise good road safety practice.
Textank
Textank is a road safety awareness scheme introduced in partnership with Pembrokeshire Country Council. It seeks to deliver road safety messages to all school children by posters, competitions, school distribution and a monthly cartoon strip in the local newspaper.
Crucial
Crew
Learning about the hazards of living in the community lies at the core of the
Chevron-sponsored Crucial Crew programme which is made up of a two-week event for 1,400 Pembrokeshire school children. The event is staged by multi-agencies such as the police, fire and ambulance services, coastguard, electricity suppliers, building companies and the National Farmers Union.
SPORTS
Chevron’s Sport and Youth Development for Pembrokeshire has been developed with Pembrokeshire’s Sports Development Department and covers a number of different projects. These include the Pembrokeshire Academy of Coaching Education (PACE) which brings 50 qualified coaches to schools and clubs and grant aid for junior sports development in the county; Pembrokeshire Water Sports Instructors for Schools Programme and the Healthy Living Programme. In addition, the
Chevron Women’s Football League is now the largest league of its type in the UK and has been chosen to be only one of three National Centres of Excellence. New for 2004 is a tennis academy for schools
London
Community
Links
Chevron is a long-term supporter of
Community Links, an east London-based charity helping to build
a better future for people living in poverty around the Canary
Wharf area. In addition to an annual corporate donation,
Chevron raises money for Community Links through
sponsorship activities such as the Grand Prix Challenge and ad
hoc donations.
Mudchute Farm
For many years, the company has also been a
supporter of east London’s Mudchute Farm – the largest
inner-city farm in the country. It gives children the chance
to experience rural farm life in the city and has nature study
areas, riding facilities, provides an education service and
runs play schemes in school holidays
Isle of Dogs Community Foundation
The foundation runs the ‘Creating a Confident
Community’ programme with the support of a number of leading
businesses in the Canary Wharf area, including Chevron .
The programme aims to help the local community to resolve its
own problems by developing and delivering social regeneration
through a range of projects.
Richard House Children's
Hospice
The company has recently lent its support to
this children's hospice in east London for teminally-ill
children. It is the only facility of its kind in Greater
London.
Northern
Ireland
Youth Action Northern Ireland
(YANI)
The Texaco brand’s support of YANI, Northern
Ireland’s largest secular youth development agency, has
enabled the organisation to fund the post of a development
officer for an outreach programme. This includes short-term
programmes to provide drama and dance tuition in local
community venues and training of youth leaders.
National
National Children's Home (NCH)

NCH and Chevron's stated aim of helping
children to achieve their full potential are in complete
alignment. Chevron supports the work of NCH, one of the
UK's leading children's charities, with an annual corporate
donation plus regular in-kind support such as the provision of
computer equipment.
