Texaco forecourt training unit hits milestone

After more than two years on the road, over 2000 sales assistants at some 500 Texaco-branded service stations in the UK have been trained using a unique mobile training facility.

The Texaco Mobile Training Unit (MTU) is available to all Texaco retailers and has been fitted out by specialists to be a classroom on wheels. The vehicle can accommodate up to six people at any at time plus a facilitator to lead the training. It has audio, video and computer equipment installed so a number of different training mediums can be used.

Retailers book training by checking with a planner which sets out when the vehicle will be in their area and then choose two out of a range of courses that they would like their staff to take. The vehicle then visits the site on a specified day for the training to be carried out.

The training courses on offer are aimed at sales assistants. These include: customer service or competent person which provides basic training for working on a forecourt, health and safety which is designed to help protect all who visit or and food hygiene and a day in the life of a sales assistant which covers all elements of site security. 

Peter Oakford, Texaco Retail Sales Manager said: “We’ve had great feedback from retailers on this flexible approach to training as their staff no longer have to spend time travelling to training courses. It also means that customers visiting Texaco service stations are served by well-trained, customer-serviced orientated staff.”
