Pwllcrochan Environmental and Community Centre Opens
The first stage of the Pwllcrochan Environmental and Community Centre, supported by Chevron’s Pembroke Refinery, is now officially open following its inaugural meeting.
The Pembroke Environmental Liaison group, hosted by Pembroke Refinery’s general manager, Des King, was the first group to use the new conferencing facilities at the former St Mary’s Church, designed specifically for the free use by community groups and non-profit organisations. Set in the Grade II listed building, the conference centre can comfortably seat 30 people theatre style and features PC’s, printing facilities, a projector and breakout meeting tables, as well as kitchen and toilet facilities.
Des King, commented: “We are delighted to be supporting this project and we hope that it benefits as many in the community as possible, which is why the use of the conference facilities is free of charge. If you belong to a community group or non-profit making organisation in the community, and you need somewhere to meet or you just want a change of venue, come and have a look at what the Pwllcrochan Centre has to offer.”
The second stage of the Pwllcrochan Environmental and Community Centre – a fully equipped schools environment facility - is currently taking bookings and will be officially launched in spring 2006 following its full completion. In conjunction with the Princes Trust, dipping stations for aquatic studies and viewing areas environmental studies in the marsh area of Pwllcrochan – designated a special site of scientific interest – have been built. Already used as a venue for the Tir a Mor educational programme, the centre is equipped with nets, petri-dishes, magnifying glasses and microscopes.
