Safety milestone at Pembroke Refinery

Pembroke Refinery has broken the three million hours mark in their efforts to achieve an injury and incident-free workplace

The milestone was achieved on 9 January, 2006, when the workforce at Pembroke Refinery achieved a total of 435 serious incident-free days. This equates to three million hours worked without a Days Away From Work Injury, an important safety measurement used by parent company Chevron in its efforts to create a zero-incident culture wherever it operates around the world.

Pembroke Refinery’s General Manager Des King offered his congratulations to colleagues: “I am very proud of everyone who works at Pembroke Refinery, each of whom has made a personal commitment to safety and incident free operations. As a global energy company, Chevron is committed to a policy of achieving zero-incidents in all of its workplaces. Three million serious incident-free hours worked is a considerable feat and is testament to the determination and dedication of all at Pembroke Refinery in fostering a safety-first work culture.”

Realising an incident-free workplace has led Pembroke Refinery to introduce a number of initiatives and behavioural safety processes to foster a sense of trust, care and respect and to role model safe attitudes and behaviours. The measures are designed to encourage anyone to voice safety concerns openly and without fear, improving team spirit and making Pembroke Refinery the workplace of choice.

To mark this significant achievement and in recognition of the contribution everyone has made, the refinery will be holding a celebration breakfast.
